Social Media
I am writing about the effects of social media in society today. As of late social media has become the cornerstone of communication just about everyone but mostly young people. It is a way for them to connect to the world and each other. They are able to do this through sites like Facebook, Twitter and once upon a time Myspace. These kinds of social media can be harm to this generation because it is all this generation knows. When they think communication they think Facebook or Twitter. Most kids today prefer communication through Facebook or Twitter rather than face to face conversations. Social Media also has its positives. Some of the positive things social media has done for society is make advertising much more simpler. Twitter also people to develop a skill which is getting out a message in one hundred and forty words. This forces people to learn how to be concise and get straight to the point. A person can post on a site and get their message out ten times faster than they can sending a letter for example. There is always the argument that social media allows a person to connect with someone who is not nearby. In my opinion I think social media is a great thing and has positively impacted the way we communicate. It has made things a whole lot simpler and easier for everyone in society. Social media, although it as its down sides is still one of the better changes or additions to society.

Mike I think that this is very true and something that today's society needs to look at and see just how much this change in communication is affecting the way the younger generations are growing up and being exposed to media. I do feel though when you said a positive for tweeting is that the person tweeting needs to be clear and concise with their message is not 100% accurate because it can just force them to abbreviate and shorten words instead of making a full coherent sentence. Overall I think that your blog post is very well done and something that today's society needs to look at and see what changes can be made and if this trend will ever stop and create a new trend for communication.

There are both ups and downs to the social media world, but as a society we need to focus more on the ups, so that we do not go and destroy these forms of communication. As for the downs, there are always negatives to anything, but they eventually get better when the positives are focused on.
ReplyDeleteThis is a interesting topic that you bring up and you hit both points of the argument people have on the topic. Many believe that it is good because it helps us communicate more quickly and effectively while others believe it decreases our ability to talk face to face which may be true in some cases. However for the most part it has more positive effects than negative on us like you believe.
ReplyDeleteI also think it's a positive thing. Not only because of how easy it is to connect with so many different people and companies with the simple click of a button, but it's also good for the environment. Imagine this, a world with no email or internet, therefore no social media. Any form of communication would have to be written on paper, and sent to the desired person. The fact that we aren't communicating this way anymore has saved countless trees, making our world a healthier one.
